Lordi’s Rocktaurant

Well Rovaniemi is a metal enough town as it is, with the sound of Finnish metal echoing out of shops and pubs all around the main square (which itself was named after Lordi after the Eurovision win). But Lordi’s Rocktaurant was definitely the icing on the cake. We just came across it as we walked off the main drag and knew we had to have dinner there.
The Rocktaurant is crammed with Lordi decor including their costumes, dungeon atmosphere and various heavy metal paraphenalia. This gives it an awesome, dark, slightly satirical atmosphere. The food, while not particularly imaginitive, is good, solid cafe food (steak, burger, schnitzel etc) and after a day of wandering Rovaniemi and Santa’s Village the large serves were very welcome. The service is also good and the price quite reasonable.
The Rocktaurant is pretty child friendly too with a good supply of high chairs. Older kids may get a bit freaked by the decor though. My 1 year old wasn’t too phased.

Sjätte Tunnan (aka. The Sixth Barrel) is a medieval style restaurant located in the Old Town of Stockholm.

Make your way down a long set of stairs to the candle lit cellars where you will find several cavern-style rooms, their walls adorned with swords and shields from a bygone era. Sit yourself down on a rustic wooden bench and you will be served various traditional dishes which you can eat with your bare hands and a lone spoon. Make sure to ask for a goblet of tasty mead ‘beer’ to wash it down. Not surprisingly, a number of metal bands such as Enslaved and Necrophobic have had their album release parties in this very fitting location.
